“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”
As the nights draw out, and spring approaches, what better way to spend an evening than with a good book. Nothing beats a ‘real’ book in my opinion. They are tactile, they have a scent and a personality, unlike books available on e-readers.
Pipe and Slippers aims to deliver to you good quality pre-loved books, at reasonable prices, with honest descriptions of condition, and actual photos of the books in our store. Unless otherwise stated, each picture is of the actual book for sale, both front and back covers, so that you can see the general condition and read the cover notes for yourself.
The vast majority of items come from my personal collection. I am at the time in my life when ‘downsizing’ and ‘putting your affairs in order’ seem to have priority, so I’d rather dispose of these books on my terms, now, rather than when I won’t care or know about it.
GRADING AND CONDITION
As you will see, our stock is biased towards motorsport, transport, aviation and nautical (air, land and sea) and nostalgia of all sorts. They are graded as follows:
A – As new, unread, un-creased spine(paperbacks), complete with excellent dust jacket, if applicable, and in excellent overall condition
B – Used, but very good condition. Some minor blemishes or marks, good dust jacket if applicable
C – Used, average condition, as you might pick up in a charity shop or ex libris. Slight marks or damage to corners. Perhaps torn or creased dust jacket if applicable
D – Poor, seen better days, obvious signs of damage or marks, perhaps missing dust jacket
E – Sad, very poor condition, but can’t justify throwing away!
A plus sign (+) indicates ‘better than’ status, therefore C+ would mean better than C grade but not good enough to justify B grade.
Original published price is included if available for comparison.
PB = Paperback, SB = Softback, HB = Hardback
A brief description is included where cover notes are not available.
If a title is signed by the author, or a first edition, this will be mentioned.
Obviously, pricing depends upon condition and the general availability of a particular item. Some of my books are rare with limited production runs, or collectable and out of print. The quoted price reflects this. In general, I base my prices on what other market places are asking, usually with a slightly lower price to encourage you to purchase from me rather than, say, Amazon.
DVD’s are also available in some sections.
Payment is via Credit Card (via Stripe) or PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can set one up here:
All books are shipped using Hermes carriers (never had a problem with them) or Royal Mail depending on size of order, and shipping costs are FREE at the moment, to the UK . If you are outside the UK, please contact us for specific shipping costs – I’m sure we can work something out.
Thank you for visiting the bookstore, come back soon as new stock will (hopefully) be added regularly.
