In this magnificently illustrated book, john Surtees - the only
man to have won the World Championship on both two and
four wheels — presents his personal selection of drivers whom
he believes should be numbered among the heroes of 20th
century motor racing.
Drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience of the
sport, john Surtees presents a unique insight into the very
different characters and backgrounds of his far from predict-
able choice of heroes.
Not all were world champions; one of the twenty didn’t
even win a Grand Prix. Some were shy and diffident — others
flamboyant. Some raced for years - others were tragically
killed after an all too brief career.
But all were superb competitors. Trying constantly to
improve, they were able to develop that special affinity with
their cars which enabled them to push their machines to the
limit.
The dedication and courage of these twenty heroes has
brought credit to the sport and won for each of them a special
place in the history of motor racing.
From the dust jacket.....

Ferrari (1963-66), Cooper—Maserati (1966), Honda (1967-68)
and BRM (1969).
